2013 was a good year for Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport. The target in 2014: to surpass 3M
In December 2013, Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport handled some 193 thousand passengers. This is a 3-percent increase in comparison to December 2012. Throughout the year 2013, 2M and 842 thousand passengers passed through the Gdansk airport, which is a 2-percent decrease in comparison to the previous year. Thus, Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport has maintained the 3rd place in the number of passengers served.
In 2013, the Gdańsk Airport handled 4.9 million kg of cargo, which means a 1.4% increase as compared to 2012.
‘Last year was in many respects a difficult time. The economic crisis in Europe, the business slowdown in Poland and very high 18-percent dynamics of passenger traffic in the preceding year were the phenomena that strongly affected the 2013 outcomes. When analyzing the air traffic structure, we are satisfied to observe the stable share of traditional carriers in passenger flights, around 30% for several years now. This proves the strong market position of such airlines as SAS, Lufthansa, LOT, Eurolot or Air Berlin in Gdańsk. And the domestic traffic has returned to 12% of the overall passenger traffic, after the one-year “excess” of the operation of OLT Express on domestic routes. The average load factor on scheduled flights was 78 %, which is the best achievement in our history and promises well for the future’, said Tomasz Kloskowski, President of the Management Board of Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport.
‘The target we have set ourselves in 2014 is to surpass 3 M passengers, or to exceed a 5% increase in passenger traffic’, the President added. ‘Being confident in the achievement of the target, we have already started recording the passengers flying to and from our airport. That is why special ballot boxes with questionnaires for passengers (full name, flight date and no., contact data) have been placed in both terminals (for departing and arriving passengers). One of the 3 million passengers will win a very attractive prize – a trip to Madrid for 4 people, and one of the attractions will be a visit to the stadium during the famous Gran Derbi to watch the football match of Real Madrid vs. FC Barcelona.
