Sofia Airport ended 2014 with the record-breaking 3 815 158 serviced passengers – 8.9 % more as compared to last year.
Terminal 1 was used by 1.2 million passengers, while Terminal 2 was used by almost 2.6 million passengers.
International scheduled flights carried 93 % of total passenger flow for the year. Passengers on domestic flights took 4 % share, while organized tourists formed 3 % of the total number of passengers.
The leading airlines – Bulgaria Air, Wizz Air and Lufthansa carried more than 2.3 million passengers to and from Sofia Airport, which formed 60 % of annual passenger traffic.
In 2014 scheduled flights headed to 48 destinations, operated by 20 airlines, 3 low-cost ones included. Most desired destinations during the last year were London, Vienna and Frankfurt.
In 2014 at Sofia Airport had 42 120 departed and landed aircraft achieving a 4 % increase comparedto 2013. The increase was due to the 9 % growth in international flights and 2 % growth in charter flights on annual basis. |Some decrease was marked in business aviation, domestic and cargo flights.
Sofia Airport ended 2014 with better results in respect to processed cargo flow. A total of 17 741 t of cargo and mail shipments were processed, 4.1 % more than in 2013. Annual growth in cargo was 3.7 %, while loaded and unloaded mail shipments increased by 7.6 %.

In tradition, the last month of the year was more successful for Sofia Airport due to the higher interest towards passenger and cargo air carriage during the holidays.
The number of handled aircraft for the period was 3 139, 34 more compared to the same month of 2013.
The total number of passengers was 291 804 (+5.2%), while processed cargo and mail shipments equalled to 1 864 tonnes in total (+28.1%).
20 December marked the start of the traditional charter ski chains from the United Kingdom of the airlines – Thomson Airways, Thomas Cook Airline, BH Air. The new to Sofia Airport English airline of Jet2 operated winter scheduled flights from East Midland and Newcastle. For the first time in the winter of 2015 Sofia Airport welcomed tourist groups from Tel Aviv carried by airline Israir.
