Warsaw Chopin Airport authorities have signed a deal with bank Pekao to finance further modernisations to the tune of PLN 600 million (EUR 145 million). The investments plan include the modernisation of the old terminal, an improvement in road access and the creation of a five-star hotel.
Michał Kaczmarzyk, director of the airport, explained that “passenger numbers in Warsaw have been growing every year. In 2014 we served 10.5 million people, and in 2015 we expect to serve about a million more.
“In order to maintain the highest standards of service for both passengers and airlines in spite of growing intensity of usage [of the airport], we want to invest in advance in developing infrastructure.”
Kaczmarzyk added that “the modernised terminal will be open for passenger use this June. The completion of this investment will maximise the capacity of the entire airport.” He added that Chopin Airport will have a maximum capacity of 22 million passengers a year once all works have been finished.
Meanwhile, the planned five-star Renaissance Hotel will likely be completed by the end of the year. It is expected to have 225 rooms as well as several conference rooms, a restaurant, a fitness centre and a swimming pool.
