First Mobile Application with the New MoldovaHoliday Tourism Brand is Launched

On April 6 the National Inbound Tourism Association of Moldova (ANTRIM), with the support of the USAID Competitiveness Enhancement and Enterprise Development Project II (CEED II), has organized a press conference. The attendants had the possibility to participate in the launch of the first mobile application aimed to promote the National Tourism Brand – the Tree of Life as well as Moldova as a touristic destination The application features 50 tourism attractions from Moldova and was developed by a private company, the same that has developed Slovenia’s Top 50 application, which was taken for reference. The application presents the major wineries, cultural and architectural monuments, museums, and monasteries in Moldova. It can be downloaded for free, in English, for iOS and Android from AppStore and Google Play.

The application was designed in line with the tourism brand brand book. It provides general information about tourism destinations and their location on the map and makes it possible to plan a visit, invite friends through social networks, set and view the route by using the offline map, as well as other features. The launch of Moldova Holiday mobile application is part of a bigger campaign aimed to promote the Tourism Brand, which will start this week at the Chisinau International Airport. Within the campaign, banners with the new tourism brand will be displayed and 10,000 SIM cards with free 3G will be distributed to all foreign visitors in the airport’s arrivals area during April 10-24, with the purpose of raising awareness about the tourism attractions and the new self-travelling opportunities existing in Moldova. The SIM cards will have the QR code of the application printed.

The advance of mobile technology gives consumers more significant experiences, influencing a lot their travel behaviors. On the huge and diverse mobile applications market, tourism applications are the top 7 most frequently downloaded applications. 60% of the total 1.75 billion smartphone users have downloaded travel applications; 45% of this group intends to use mobile applications to plan future vacations. The campaign is implemented with the support of the USAID CEED II Project, in partnership with ANTRIM, the Tourism Agency, the Chisinau International Airport – Avia Invest, Orange Moldova, and the Border Police Department.
