ADB Airfield Solutions Helps Dutch Caribbean Airports Undergo Major Refurbishment
Airport modernization projects at Bonaire, Saba and Sint Eustatius airports to enhance airfield safety and availability.
ADB Group is participating in upgrades at the airports of Bonaire, St Eustatius and Saba. These special municipalities, part of the Caribbean territory of the Kingdom of the Netherlands are collectively known as the Dutch Caribbean Islands. The Dutch government is working with each island to bring its airport in line with international civil aviation (ICAO) safety standards. ADB will deliver its ICAO-compliant portfolio including AGL for the runway and taxiway and related systems, power equipment, signs, EXEL frangible structures and ewo’s LED apron floodlighting.
The three islands have come under Dutch government responsibility since October 2010 following the dissolution of the Dutch Antilles, and the airport upgrades will help support the growing tourism industry.

ADB will supply LED apron floodlights at all three airports. At Saba’s Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport and Sint Eustatius’ F.D. Roosevelt Airport, the company will supply a wide range of products and solutions. These include runway and taxiway AGL, the AGL system, signage and wind cones, frangible masts, and power equipment such as Constant Current Regulators, transformers and connector kits. Additional installations at Sint Eustatius include ADB’s approach lighting and Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) system.
“Adherence to ICAO safety standards will go a long way in boosting the confidence of the overall aviation ecosystem, especially airline carriers and passengers that rely on the infrastructure at these airports,” notes Christian Onselaere, CEO, ADB Group. “These airports will soon be better equipped to cater to the growing tourist air traffic in recent years.”
NACO of the Netherlands is the lead consultant on these projects, which are expected to be completed by July 2015.
