Baltic Aviation Academy Puts Together a List of Top 10 Flying Celebrities

It seems that “aviation disease” is much more serious illness than we could have imagined – it spreads not only among ordinary human beings, but infects well-known people as well. Surprisingly there is a long list of celebrities who not only own an airplane, but also know how to pilot it. Some of them find flying as a hobby while others get seriously involved into it. So take a look into our list of top 10 celebrity pilots who can take off to the sky!

1. Tom Cruise

The star of Top Gun comes first on the list. After playing a naval fighter pilot in the movie, the actor decided to become one in real life. Cruise holds his license since 1994 and owns an aircraft fleet, including Gulfstream GIV and a World War II P-51 Mustang.

2. Hilary Swank

The actress started taking flying lessons while filming in the movie Amelia. She played the role of pioneer pilot who mysteriously disappeared during a 1937 flight. Although Swank hadn’t earned her license by the time she started shooting the movie, but she definitely knew how to handle an airplane.

3. John Travolta

He is probably the best known flying celebrity whose passion for aviation is so strong that he even built his own runway at the main entrance of one of his houses. Travolta owns a fleet of five aircraft, including a Boeing 707, which he pilots himself.

4. Clint Eastwood

The celebrity holds a pilot license for more than 30 years and still flies in his 80s. Eastwood enjoys flying a lot and the most attractive side of this hobby to him is that nobody could identify you while you are in the airplane as well as you are able to spend some time alone.

5. Harrison Ford

Turned out Ford is not only a star of Indiana Jones but also a pilot of both, fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters. Unlike many others, the actor flies not only for his own pleasure – he participated in rescue flights for lost hikers and his achievements were marked at the 6th Annual Living Legends of Aviation Awards.

6. Angelina Jolie

In addition to her talent and successful career, the actress is qualified to fly since 2004 as she gained a private pilot license with an instrument rating. Jolie owns and pilots a single-engine Cirrus SR22.

7. Kurt Russell

One more Hollywood star to be on the wings. Russell has been a certified pilot since 1992 and he is also an Honorary Member of “Wings of Hope”, a humanitarian aviation organization.

8. Gisele Bündchen

By gaining a helicopter pilot license in 2009, the celebrity proved to the world that supermodels can fly as well. For your surprise, she was learning flying while she was pregnant with her son!

9. Morgan Freeman

At first Freeman worked as a mechanic in the Air Force while he got an opportunity to pilot an aircraft. He got a license at age of 65 proving that it is never too late to become a pilot. He owns a number of private aircraft, including a Cessna 414 and a Cessna Citation 501 SP Jet.

10. Bruce Dickinson

Give applause to a real phenomenon! Being a legend of heavy metal, Iron Maiden’s frontman is able to be a qualified airline pilot at the same time. He gained his pilot license in 1991 and started from flying Iron Maiden on tour. Soon he got a job in the airline and kept doing both, being a lead singer in the band and a successful airline pilot.
