Iron Maiden’s ‘Ed Force One’ ‘Badly Damaged’ in Handling Accident

Heavy metal band Iron Maiden said this Saturday, 12.3.2016, that the group’s leased Boeing 747 called ”Ed Force One” was damaged in a handling accident in Santiago, Chile.

Ed Force One was this morning tethered to a tow truck to be taken for refuelling prior to flying  over the Andes to Cordoba for the next show. On moving  the steering pin that is part of the mechanism that connects the ground tug to the aircraft  seemingly fell out. On making a turn the aircraft had no steering and collided with the ground tug badly damaging the undercarriage, two of the aircrafts engines and  injuring two ground tug operators, both of whom have been taken to hospital.” – is written on the band’s website.

According to the mainenance staff’s initial reports, the plane’s engines suffered major damage and will need repairs or maybe even replacement.

The band said it’s making other arrangements to get its members and equipment to Cordoba, where the next concert is scheduled. Its show in Chile was, according to the website,  a success with 58,000 fans attending.

Later on the website it was stated the handling crew would make a full recovery and the band would get a replacement plane in the meantime.

We recently informed about the refurbishment of the aircraft by Dnepr Volga.
