Lublin relies on the cooperation of companies in the field of advanced aviation technologyLublin City, Lubelskie Region Marshal’s Office and the Board of PZL- Świdnik signed on April 14, this year, a letter of intent on the creation of Lublin Cluster for Advanced Aerospace Technology. Ceremony, held at the Castle of Lublin, highlighted the Lublin region contribution to the development of the Polish aviation sector and assured mutual cooperation between local governments, universities and the business environment.

The aviation industry is one of the pearls of the Polish economy, which is permanently, and for a long time, associated with the Lublin Region. Since 1920, as in the earliest town in independent Poland, Lublin was a place of production of Ansaldo A-1 Balilla and A -300 aircrafts, manufactured under Italian license. In the Lublin region, there were in the past and there are now many different types of aerial activity as aerospace, military aircraft, including the training of personnel for the aviation and civil education. The rich history and many years of experience, and goals of City of Lublin in the context of Lublin Development Strategy planned for 2013-2020 on strengthening the economic potential were inspiring contribution to the creation of Lublin Modern Technology Aerospace Cluster.

“Aviation is a sector predestined to develop clusters. The aviation sector is one of the most innovative sectors of the economy. The intensity of investment in research and development of the Polish aviation companies are among the largest in the world. Therefore we are pleased that we were able to inspire Lublin environment for cooperation. We are convinced that the functioning of the cluster will lead to improved competitiveness of businesses in the participating and Lublin airline industry will return to the world league” – said Krzysztof Żuk, President of Lublin.

A cluster is a structure that facilitates the flow of information, processes conducive to learning and stimulating innovation. He is considered the most mature form of organization of production, which stands above average competitiveness. The main objective of Lublin Cluster for Advanced Technology Aircraft is to increase innovation and strengthen the cooperative relations of its members, which leads to an increase in the competitiveness of all companies participating in the project.

“I am convinced that the creation of an aerospace cluster will contribute to the development of innovation of companies operating in it. But it is not a simple sum of the individual entities, but is the result of interaction and synergy, spatial form of production organization that can increase the flexibility and competitiveness. We are investing in new quality of relations between enterprises based on interdependencies, cooperation and trust” – said Krzysztof Hetman, Marshal of Lublin Region.

The coordinator of Lublin Cluster of Aerospace Advanced Technology is PZL-Świdnik company, which will perform activities including building networks between members of the cluster for the effective use of existing capabilities, development of advanced technologies in the aviation industry through the exchange of knowledge, experience and the development of regional cooperation links.

“An ambitious initiative to establish an aerospace cluster in the Lublin assumes a creation of a leading scientific center in Poland, joining together the industry, local governments, universities and the already existing business networks. We are pleased that PZL – Świdnik, along with the city of Lublin and the Marshal’s Office will be able to lead and develop this idea. Today’s agreement is the first step on our long journey, also developing collaborations and opportunities with the network of similar clusters already existing in other European countries” – said Nicola Blanco, Managing Director of PZL- Świdnik .

PZL- Świdnik, successfully associated with the production of aviation products for over 60 years, is a natural choice to become a Lublin coordinator of the Cluster for Advanced Aerospace Technology. Thanks to the Company commitment, the building of a brand of the cluster, as a highly innovative environment, supporting the development of a modern economy in Lublin and in the Lublin region – is realized.

“We assume the cluster will be able to organize the already existing co-operation of companies in the aviation industry in the Lublin region better”  – says Mieczysław Majewski, president of Board of PZL-Świdnik.

The concept of the triple helix assumes participation in the cluster initiative players from the business, science and public administration. Therefore, in the further development of Lublin Cluster for Advanced Aerospace Technology universities, scientific – research units, business environment institutions and enterprises of the province of Lublin will be invited. In the longer term broader transregional cooperation and international is also not excluded.
