Embraer has spent a few years developing market in Asia and today numerous aviation training academies feel the benefit of it. Asian market has showed its potential for awhile now as the number of low cost carriers has increased eight times over the last ten years and currently accounts for 60% of seat capacity in Southeast Asia. Therefore, such economic turbofan engine regional aircraft as Embraer 145 has been able to carve itself a niche in such a fast developing market. Though enough about the aircraft usage growth which is evident, and let’s talk about the staff required to make sure that these aircraft take-off, land, and fully perform the duties it is built for.
Embraer Company exercises a practice where they provide companies with pilot type rating training after the purchase of an aircraft. Therefore, all Asian airlines that decided to employ this new type of regional aircraft were set pilot type rating training vise. But what about the cabin crew and ground handling staff training?
When new aircraft enters the market where it hasn’t been operated much, market lacks everything: staff, instructors, examinators, training equipment, service equipment, and specific skills needed to service and maintain the aircraft. This exact issue was faced by one of South East Asia’s airline as they acquired Embraer 145. Company had years of experience in airline management, yet had to start from the beginning as the new aircraft arrived. Company had no other choice but to make a rational and most cost-effective decision as to outsource the ground handling training to the experienced aviation training company with the training conducted on the airline’s training base.
Through the training outsourcing approach the airline was able to receive the training that their staff needed in order to successfully start Embraer 145 operations. First up, a group of Flight dispatchers were trained according to the Embraer aircraft operations, because Flight Dispatchers are the first hand of help for the pilots in flight and on the ground. Since the previously mentioned airline is not a new company, they had plenty of ground handling staff, however a few specific courses were needed to successfully service the aircraft and training outsourcing approach provided them with the flexibility of only picking and choosing the courses they needed instead of buying the entire package.
Customized ground handling training course package for the airline to start successful Embraer 145 operation included Load Control, Ramp Agent, Loading Personnel, Load Master, Water & Toilet, and Dangerous Goods courses. On top of all that, one of the most important courses that the airline also acquired from the training provider was Train the Trainer course, which will allow company to train and raise their own Embraer training instructors that from now own will be providing training for new staff and recurrent courses for the senior employees.
The airline is not the only company in Asia or the entire world that acquired new type of aircraft and needed quick and reliable solution to start the operations. As the aviation world is expanding, local training providers might not always have the capabilities or scope of knowledge needed to train new professionals. This is when the aviation academies and training providers from the entire world becomes a good market to start the search. Training outsourcing approach gives companies an opportunity to use cost effective and reliable solutions conducted by globally accepted standards. More so, companies whose employees are certified professionals are viewed as efficient and trustworthy clients and partners by other aviation market players.
Services like custom tailored training packages, instructors that travel on site or startup consultants are not new, however it still has to gain its traction amongst the airlines and other aviation companies. However, this is a promising start and we are eager to see the changes and development it will bring.
