PZL-Świdnik and Maria Curie-Skłodowska University signed cooperation agreement

PZL-Świdnik, an AgustaWestland company, a key aviation employer in Poland and a global leader in advanced aviation technologies signed a cooperation agreement with Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (UMCS)

The agreement provides for a multifaceted cooperation between PZL-Świdnik and UMCS to leverage on the their capabilities, knowledge and experience to help develop the economy of the region by exploiting their science and research activities.

The agreement will enable a two way exchange of UMCS and PZL personnel for training and educational purposes, training and internships at PZL-Świdnik plants for UMCS students and graduates or study programmes at UMCS for PZL’s personnel. Under this agreement, students will also write BA and MA theses which specifically address the aviation industry, and also undertake joint research and scientific activities.

The agreement signed today will benefit a new generation of Polish students, the Lubelskie region and Poland as a whole. The University of Maria Curie-Sklodowska provides students with the academic knowledge and PZL-Świdnik will help students obtain practical skills and knowledge of industry to help them in their future careers. PZL-Swidnik and UMCS are already discussing a range of research programmes in the areas of chemical analysis, fibre optics, IT solutions and polymers, that could be applied to support future production of helicopters.

The co-operation between science and business is a challenge and imperative for universities in Poland. We meet these challenges, hence the signing of today’s agreement with PZL-Świdnik, one of the most significant industrial plants in Poland. Conducting joint research programmes is basis of our agreement. We have the theoretical and scientific potential, while PZL-Świdnik has the research potential. Apart from the research, we would like to develop cooperation in the field of academic teaching with PZL-Świdnik giving lectures to students that combine theoretical knowledge with practice. Moreover, we want do develop the idea to create new fields of study, important for UMCS and PZL-Świdnik – concluded professor Stanisław Michałowski, Rector of UMCS.

Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin is following in the footsteps of the Lublin University of Technology, the Rzeszów University of Technology, the Warsaw University of Technology, the Military University of Technology in Warsaw, the Polish Air Force Academy in Dęblin and the AGH University of Science and Technology, which have already partnered with PZL-Świdnik to strengthen scientific and research cooperation. Also, in April this year PZL-Świdnik, the Lublin City Hall and the Marshal’s Office of the Lubelskie Province established the Lublin Cluster of Advanced Aerospace Technologies, which represents the company’s continued commitment to developing and promoting new innovative aviation technologies in conjunction with academic, industrial and local government partners.
