Russian Helicopters CEO showcased Russia’s finest developments to India’s Prime Minister
During Aero India 2015, which took place in Bangalore from 18 to 22 February, Russian Helicopters CEO and head of the State Corporation Rostec delegation Alexander Mikheev showcased the latest Russian commercial and military technology for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Over 30 Russian companies, including Rostec’s Russian Helicopters, United Engine Corporation, Shvabe Holding, Kamaz, VSMPO-AVISMA, Concern Radio-Electronic Technologies (KRET), Rosoboronexport, and RT Chemcomposite, among others, saw their involvement in Aero India 2015 come to a successful conclusion.
Alexander Mikheev said that Russia had demonstrated its leadership in the production of high-quality, high-tech defence products.
“For 55 years Russia and India have been strategic partners in the military and technical sphere. India is one of our key partners in both commercial and defence sectors,” said Russian Helicopters CEO and head of the State Corporation Rostec delegation Alexander Mikheev. “As for the helicopter industry, we will continue to develop and expand our cooperation. I am confident that the Ka-226T, which we showcased during this exhibition and which boasts a host of advantageous capabilities, sparked interest among our Indian partners.”
The Ka-226T is a light, twin engine, multirole helicopter with coaxial main rotor design. It underwent testing in India as part of the tender to supply helicopters that was cancelled by the Indian authorities in 2014. Flying in India’s mountainous areas and hot climate, this helicopter demonstrated that it outperforms the competition on offer from Western companies. It flew with ease over mountain ranges over 7,500 metres high – which is significantly higher than the tender specified.
Given the growth of the commercial helicopter market in the region, Russian Helicopters also showcased its internationally renowned commercial multirole Mi-8/17 helicopters, and the light Ansat.
