Sikorsky Aircraft and PZL Mielec will Invest 200 million of Dollars in WZL-1 in Lodz
Consortium of Sikorsky Aircraft and PZL Mielec signed an agreement with WZL-1 in Lodz concerning the future cooperation if BLACK HAWK platform win the tender for multitask helicopter for polish army. The agreement is the part of the partnership built together with PGZ (Polish Armament Group) to support Polish armed forces.
The agreement provides the establishment in WZL-1 plant in Lodz and in Deblin service center for helicopters purchased by the Ministry of Defence as part of the tender for a multi-purpose helicopter for the Air Force. This is an action which is going to create Polish potential for service and repair of aircraft parts, as the chassis, rotors and gears, drive systems, APU engines, and other units responsible for flight control in offered helicopters.
For WZL-1 it will be a technological revolution. Above all, it is the acquisition of new technology and competence in the field of aircraft service and repairs, replacement of machines and devices, and most importantly move away from the current “soviet” approach to the service of aviation equipment and replace it with “western” methodology. The acquired competences are also the chance for WZL-1 to join to the global support and service network of Sikorsky Aircraft and achieve in the future opportunity for providing improvements and modernization to the worldwide fleet of BLACK HAWK helicopters.
If the consortium of Sikorsky and PZL Mielec wins the tender, WZL-1 will be carried out service, repairs, modernization and maintenance of BLACK HAWK helicopters. This will be the only service facility to handle the fleet of helicopters purchased by the Ministry of Defence. In the future, it has a potential to become a regional center for the operating fleet of Sikorsky helicopters from the region of Central and Eastern Europe.
According to the agreement if the Consortium win the tender, Sikorsky and PZL Mielec will invest in WZL-1 nearly 200 million of dollars. These investments will include the transfer of modern technologies in the field of modernization, repair and support of S-70i ™ BLACK HAWK and S-70B ™ Seahawk®, upgrading of machinery and equipment, as well as training package and spare parts and components.
On the agreement signed today will also benefit the Lodz and Deblin cities themself and the local industrial companies. The agreement with WZL-1 is in fact opening the door for the other giants of the aerospace industry. Behind Sikorsky and PZL Mielec in Lodz and in Deblin their trading partners will look for other aviation market giants like General Electric, Rockwell Collins, Honeywell, Pratt & Whitney Canada and UTC Aerospace Systems, belonging like Sikorsky and PZL Mielec to United Technologies Corporation.
