Did you ever wonder when the first commercial flight has been conducted, or who for the first time flew over the Atlantic Ocean? 1. First successful heavier-than-air machine flight. It happened in North Carolina in 1903 on the 17th of December. Orville Wright, one of the Wright brothers, started a homemade 12-horsepower engine of his biplane. This time he has reached 120 ft. and stayed in the air for 12 sec. That same day, these numbers has been increased by his brother Wilbur.

2. First licensed woman pilot. Baroness Raymonde de la Roche of France, who learned to fly in 1909, received ticket No. 36 on March 8.

3. First multi-engine aircraft. First multi-engine aircraft Russky Vityaz was built and flown first in 1913 by Igor Ivan Sikorsky.

4. First commercial flight. The very first commercial flight has been conducted On January 1, 1914. Flight was from St. Petersburg to Tampa, flying a total of 23 minutes. Plane – a two seater Benoist XIV, pilot – Tony Jannus.

5. First transatlantic flight. This flight has been conducted in 1919 between 8th and 31st of May with Curtiss NC-4. Flight route has been from the U.S. to Newfoundland, then to the Azores and on to Portugal and finally the UK. The whole journey took 23 days, with six stops along the way. The same year British aviators Alcock and Brown made the first non-stop transatlantic flight.

6. First nonstop transcontinental flight. On the 2nd to 3rd of May in 1923 John A. Macready and Oakley Kelly flew a single-engine Fokker T-2 nonstop from New York to San Diego, a distance of just over 2,500 mi in 26 hr., 50 min.

7. First blind flight. In 1929 September 24th James H. Doolittle took off and landed entirely on instruments.

8. First woman airline pilot. 1932 December 29th, Ruth Rowland Nichols became the first woman pilot of a commercial passenger airline, flying for New York and New England Airways.

9. First Boeing 737. Initial 737-100 flew in 1967 and entered airline service in February of 1968. Next, the lengthened 737-200 entered service in April of 1968. In the 1980s Boeing launched the -300, -400, and -500 models, subsequently referred to as the Boeing 737 Classic series.

10. The first member of the A320 family—the A320—was launched in March of 1984, first flew on the 22 February of 1987, and was first delivered in 1988.
